Job Summary
This full stack engineer will work with our team of web professionals including designers, web content strategists and other developers to build and support websites and web-based applications and maintain and improve the university web templates.
They will guide decisions on technical strategy, architecture, tools and utilities with security, accessibility, scalability and an optimal user experience in mind.
They will also plan and implement system upgrades, assist in the authoring of best practices and technical documentation, and guide and help users of the university's content management system (Cascade CMS), calendar, form builder and other supported systems.
Said another way, this new team member will:
- Contribute to the development of new and existing websites and web applications from conceptualization to launch. Conduct technical implementation and support of FIU's web presence, including application development, campus-wide web content management system implementation.
- Research, test, and implement new techniques, frameworks, and utilities. Develop features in an agile environment by collecting specifications, testing, documenting and training to provide useful applications that meet business needs.
- Adhere to current and upcoming web and compliance trends including valid HTML, CSS, JavaScript, 508 and ADA compliance, search engine optimization, user interface/information design.
- Assist in maintaining and upgrading managed systems including hosting platforms, Cascade CMS, FIU Calendar, Webforms, go.FIU and more.
- Work strategically with stakeholders across the university to help determine the best use of the web for their respective areas, which requires an excellent understanding of the user experience.
- Research new developments in digital communications that can be used to increase visibility and enhance marketing and communication internally and externally. Work in collaboration with the Division of Strategic Communications on all collateral development, advertising and promotion.
Examples of our work
The Office of Digital Communications hosts more than 150 websites and microsites that use the Core template. In a typical year, we'll launch around 80 web projects—a combination of websites, microsites, marketing landing pages, and system features, fixes or updates.
