Weed out old FIU Catalog links to make sure students can always find the right information!

In the 2024-2025 academic year, there was a major update to the FIU Catalog that completely reworked URLs within the catalog. Since the transition, old pages and PDF download links no longer work.

As you can see from the example above, the new links are more streamlined and no longer contain the year a PDF was posted. Luckily for us, this means we have an easy way of identifying old links by creating a Siteimprove policy.

Updating your old Catalog links

To get started, go to our Old Catalog Links policy page and select your website from the dropdown in the top left.

Open HTML view

Once you have a page for review, use the View HTML button to open Siteimprove's HTML view.

While the HTML view may be a little overwhelming, we suggest using it instead of the Page Content view because links are usually not "visible" parts of the page.

You can find the outdated link after href, within the quotes. Copy the link so we can search for it on Cascade.

Find and Replace in the source code

Go to Cascade's source code (using the <> button shown above). Open the Find feature (Ctrl+F or Cmd+F) and paste the outdated link. Now that you know where the outdated link is, either manually edit it or use the Replace feature (click + right under the Find box) to put in the new link.

And you're done! We know it's a little tricky to update links, but the new Catalog formatting means we only have to update it once instead of updating the links every year, so we can take comfort in that at least!
