U.S. News & World Report policy on Siteimprove

It's rankings season, and U.S. News & World Report just announced their newest university rankings.

September is just one of two major rankings seasons for U.S. News—they release rankings related to graduate schools around March.

We posted recently about where to find FIU's latest rankings but, unless you thought ahead, finding the pages where you published the rankings might be difficult.

Our newest Siteimprove policy highlights references to U.S. News across your website. That should make it easier to quickly identify your rankings pages.

This policy finds matches for:

  • U.S. News
  • US News
  • USNWR

As you might gather, the policy relies on attributing rankings to the ranking body—in this case U.S. News. Without attribution, finding rankings on your website will be a lot tougher. Make sure to reference U.S. News & World Report at least once when you're listing official rankings for a college, school or program.

When reviewing this Siteimprove policy, we recommend you do not ignore any matches unless the content is archival in some way (old news stories, publications or events). This way, you'll always have this page to reference in the list of matches.

This policy also reviews alt text on images. So if you're adding badges to your site, add the attribution along with the ranking on the badge's alt text.

...And speaking of badges, we host the official U.S. News badges on FIU.edu so you can link directly to them. That way, you don't have to upload a new badge every year. You can reach out to DigiComm for these links if you want them for your website.

Set yourself up for success by scheduling a review of any rankings during update seasons. Remember, you can schedule a content review within Cascade.
