With the arrival of June 1, hurricane season has officially begun. South Florida continued its lucky streak when it came to major storms through 2025, but there is no telling what 2026 will bring.
That's why all FIU communicators must work together to keep our students, faculty and staff informed. In the event of a storm, updates will come directly from official FIU sources including the Office of Media Relations and the Department of Emergency Management.
While we have a couple of methods to keep people current on any developments, we want to ensure a uniformity of information if the time comes.
We've written before on the best practices when providing storm information on your website, and everyone is encouraged to give it a quick read as a refresher.
We recommend changing your website's Banner Source to University, which will ensure all central communications make it directly to your homepage.

We also recommend signing up for FIU Alert if you haven't already. FIU Alert is the best sources for up-to-the-minute information from the university during an emergency.
Stay Safe, everyone! Let's hope this hurricane season is uneventful.
